Spring Break Surprise
Day 1: Surprise Spring Break Vacation/Alpaca Farm
So, I thought it was a normal day. We did our normal school routines and had a normal day at school. (Well I had a movie day for the end of the 3rd marking period.) Anyway, when school was over, I was supposed to have play practice but my play director told me I wasn't supposed to. So I went outside like she said to and there I found our camper! I thought we were just going to take it to storage but my mom said we were going to Alabama! It was like a 13 hour drive so of course we had to stop for the night because we just got out of school at 3'o clock! My mom said we were going to stay at a Harvest Host farm. I guessed it was an alpaca farm and somehow I was right! When we got to the farm I spent some time with the alpacas while mom and dad set up. I tried to feed the alpacas grass and I tried to pet them but they were shy and every time I got close they bolted. That night, my sisters and I got some super cute souvenirs from the gift shop. We got rainbow alpaca plushies and I named mine Amari Ali Bumhoffer.
Day 2: At Alabama/Best Friend Surprise
This is the morning after we arrived at the alpaca farm and today we are going to finish up the drive to Alabama! It was an endless, nine-hour drive to Alabama and we watched movies the whole way! When we finally arrived, it was time to start cooking dinner. Since we just arrived today, we decided it was to late to have smore's. It was really dark when the action happened. A super big trailer pulled into the site a few spaces away from us. My mom said to look because it was so big. I didn't think much of it. There are campers like that coming in this campground every day! Then there were kids coming out of the car. Mom told us to go over and meet them. Instead, they came over to us. I thought that was weird because I thought we didn't even know them. The kids turned out to be our best friends, Madi and Owen Bredin! I was so surprised. When this trip first started I even asked my mom if they were coming. She said no. This was going to be the best trip of my life, well, at least a pretty good one.
Day 3: Pancake Breakfast and 'Hike' Through the Forest
Today I was excited because today Mr. Mike, the Bredins' dad, was going to make us pancakes for breakfast. That day, I learned that his pancakes were better than dad's pancakes. Later that day, after lunch, we went on what was supposed to be a hike with a real trail. We drove on a dirt road to get there and at first we thought we were hiking on a gravel road. I thought that was what the whole hike was going to be. The mom and Mrs. Emily, the Bredin's mom, looked at their trail map and we had to back track to get on the 'trail'. When I say 'trail', I mean we had to push through weeds and jump over dead trees. I mean, there wasn't even a trail! One good thing about that trek was there was a little waterfall with a cave behind it so we could hangout and eat a snack. The hike back was just the same. That night we had smore's FINALLY. I love smore's.
Day 4: Easter: Real Hike, Big Waterfalls
Today is Easter and since we were camping, the Easter Bunny hid all the eggs around the campsite! The Easter Bunny hid a golden dollar coin and Brooklyn found it. Christ is Risen!! We watched church in the Bredin's camper, on their TV. That afternoon, we went on a REAL hike. We hiked for close to 5.5 miles! There were some awesome waterfalls. The first one was pretty cool and I thought that was it, but we kept hiking and the waterfalls became bigger and bigger! Then we saw the final one. It was huge and had a big pool in front of it. We climbed up and into the cave behind it, but not for long because we still wanted to have a snack. The hike back was the same: the same waterfalls, the same trail. That night, instead of having smore's, we had Easter cupcakes. They had little rings with bunnies on them!
Day 5: All By Ourselves
This morning, around 10 o'clock, the Bredin's left. Now we were all by ourselves. Since we had no one to play with, we went on bike ride with the whole family. We did that bike ride right before lunch. Then after lunch we went on a walk on the paths that were around the campground. The rest of the day was really hot so we just hung out around the camper. That night we put Mini Reese's Cups from Easter in our smore's in place of chocolate. It was delicious!! After we toasted our marshmallows dad made the fire like 6 feet tall! Then we added a color packet and BOOM went the color! Tomorrow we will begin our journey home.
Day 6: Driving/ 450 North Brewery
So today we begin our journey home. We watched movies mostly the whole way. I did some activity worksheets. We aren't going to be driving the whole way so we are going to be staying at 450 North Brewery, another Harvest Host. That brewery has a restaurant so we ate dinner there. I had a very yummy cheeseburger. They had big murals all over the walls. We parked our camper, Wendy, right by a big field so after dinner, my sisters and I ran around in the field. There were a lot of wildflowers around in the field and we picked some. We danced a little bit and then went inside for bed.
Day 7: Home Again
We drove the rest of the 3 or 4 hours home today. I was really excited to be home again. Don't get me wrong, I love to go camping but it is always nice to be back in my own bed. Once we passed a sign for Grand Rapids, I knew we were close to home. When I saw our neighborhood, I was practically doing a happy dance in my brain! I know I was excited to be home! All of us probably were!
